Ten Things I Never Told You

I prefer curiosity that I am not in a condition to satisfy

I prefer markers of time lowered into deeper pockets
Buried and ignored

I prefer deviations peculiar to dreams --but still
I prefer to be found in my wrapper by my nightmare

If I cannot sleep, I prefer to cry myself better in a pillow,
(when I haven’t any tissue, And I haven’t any sleeves)

I prefer to give testy dialogue a grand poke in the middle

I prefer to name ‘Monday’ and leave the rest anonymous

I prefer the oblique separation of rain falling in slanted lines

I prefer a world dimensionally narrow

I prefer oblivion to the fact that I am out of place

Most of all I prefer the particularities and generalities of a gloomy life with bright glories of fancy.

Interesting list - especially the last, especially prefaced by "most of all," giving it a greater importance. Why, exactly, do you prefer the gloomy life with bright fancies of glory to a glorious life punctuated with bits of gloom?

I, too, was intrigued by the last line. Does the language of thought influence the perception of life?
Or does the perceived reality of life foster the language in thought?

Do these thoughts have anything to do with the approach of winter? Maybe that's a superfluous question.

hi, Pauline. Point well taken. I guess in the flourish of my pen I was thinking as I often do, how without the coolness of shadows, we would not so dearly appreciate the sunshine. Likewise, it's the contrast here, and the uncanny irony of it all, that I couldn't resist to emphasize my particular perception of what can brighten not just a general-run-of-the-mill day, but true deep-seated gloom. But then, again, maybe it's something that only makes sense to me.

Hi, joared, interesting twist in those opening statements, that as usual leaves me pondering, pondering.

I think these thoughts I have written have probably more to do with "perceived realities of life fostering language".....I can't be sure because wuthin ourselves, we are not capable of seeing what others see.
