Thanksgiving Levity

(News casts have 'filler', movies have 'filler', commercials have 'filler', so why shouldn't my blog have 'filler'. This is 'filler'.)

Thanksgiving is over. The monstrous turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce are all gone and the houseguests have left. Now its oft been said that turkey produces sleepiness and that feel good byproduct called serotonin. But there is more to turkey-lurky than just that. There are other things turkey does, that I am now more aware of as an ‘old fart’.

I worked hard last Friday. Baking and tidying up everything for the Thanksgiving event. I washed all the floors, but that was downright silly. I should have washed the chandeliers and ceilings instead.

Cause yesterday was a day of levitation. Even the puppies, after eating all those turkey scraps, hovered over the lawn instead of resting on it when I looked out the window. Hub jokingly asked this morning if it was finally safe to cut the mooring lines that kept us from floating near the ceiling.

Of course by now you’ve figured out that the reason we were all levitating is because turkey-gas is lighter than air. Exactly like helium, it would seem to me except for one small difference. Helium is odorless.

And a cute piece of 'filler' this was Roberta. Love that turkey...knew about the serotonin...ah, but the levitation....I'll be watching for that this Thanksgiving. Thanks for the heads-up.

omg - I was rolling on the floor, partly from your clever choice of words and partly from a memory of my sister laughing helplessly while trying to wave me off - alas, I didn't get the message until I was within two feet of her and was nearly asphixiated by turkey-gas, as you so politely put it.

joy, thank you for that comment. I knew as I read it you were chuckling, and so was I.

pauline, I'm still wondering if you correctly interpreted the gesture your sister made. I'm not convinced she was "tryin' to wave you off." I've been given that same waving gesture by persons in my tribe and I think the real intent is NOT to scoot me away but rather to flush more choking gases in my direction. A movement sutlely intended to shift the blame and the shame. :)

lol - no, she was definitley trying to wave me away. We still laugh about it to this day and she is still mortified that I "caught her in the act."

pauline, glad you came back to clarify that. Your family definitely has more class than my tribe.

Oh, NO! Our Thanksgiving is a month off, and I'll be thinking about "Turkey Gas" for the entire month. Dear Husband is notorious for this problem. Now I know why he disappears after dinner on Thanksgiving. It must be love on his part, or he's trying to keep from tarnishing his reputation with his in-laws.

Great post, Roberta. Thanks for the grins!

Hi Buffy. You are so lucky to be loved that much. Not so much love here -- after Turkey dinner. My tribe are artful at slipping gas silently and then blaming others. Have a great Thanksgiving, Buff, when your TG rolls around.
