Winter Solstice Seduction

Winter comes in his cunning way
With a gentle tread of
Consummating silence.

I dress for his arrival
Woolly vest, warm toque,
Layered chastity jeans.

I say, “No, No, No,!”—
but he will not listen

He wraps himself around me
Exhales his chilly breath,
Kisses me with icy tenderness,
Nuzzles me with frosted brow—
And it is too lovely.

“Oh solstice of Christmas Joy!
Come —
Entangle me in sweet coolness
And kiss me again.”

what seduction!

sweet coolness here amounts to about 20 degrees - we're still being kissed by winter. soon enough those hidden fangs will be biting...

The seduction is not so tender and sweet today, Pauline. I wrote this before temperatures plummeted to -31 last night with windchills as low as -43.

Still I wrap myself in the stuff to take doggies for their walk and try to concentrate in a positive way on the loveliness of the winter season.

Lovely! A lot of heat in that icy coldness.

Beautiful Roberta. Actually this is the perfect prose for what we had been experiencing here inthe midwest of the US; but today we honestly had temps in the 40's.. uncommonly mild for our little corner of the world.

Again....your poetry is always...just beautiful Roberta.

Thank you for that comment, joared. Makes one wonder which is correct -- too hot to handle, or too cold to handle. :)

Joy, I so much appreciate your visit. To tell you the truth this is one of the poems that comes from a very silly part of my brain, and leaves me afterwards thinking, "why did I post that stupid thing?"

So I really did appreciate you, my lovely fan-friend, and your assurance that this silly little poem was worthy enough to share.
